Pond Filters
Pond filters are necessary for keeping a pond clean, clear and healthy. They come in various sizes and should be selected according to the size of the pond and what type of pond it is. A goldfish and water garden should have half of its volume filtered every hour. A koi pond should have the entire pond filtered every hour for the best results.
Sunny areas also require more water to be run through pond filters. The filters should not be used alone however, beneficial bacteria should be added to the water to lessen the work that the filter has to do as well as preventing any algae buildup.
There are many different types of pond filters and pumps. Pressurized filters can be placed anywhere while some filters require that the filter be installed at the same level as the maximum height of the water. It is best to install the filter away from the pond for easier maintenance. Built in filters are often difficult to clean, maintain and change.
