Fish Ponds
Fish ponds come in two basic types, ones used for ornamental fish such as koi and those used for sport or farm fish. The latter are much larger and difficult to maintain, so we will be concentrating on the former.
Ornamental fish ponds are a great addition to any backyard or garden. They can even be integrated into interior architecture, basically a floor level fish tank. Most are cold, fresh water ponds which allow for a wide variety of plant life as well.
Fish ponds typically have a pump and filter system to keep them clean, but maintaining the pH and algae blooms is important for keeping the water clear. There are many ways to remove algae without harming fish and plant life. Beneficial bacteria can be added which eat algae, and extra plant life can be introduced to compete with the algae’s food source.
